On June 28, pop singer and K-Pop icon Tiffany Young unveiled her powerful new track, “Over My Skin.” Upon its release, the hashtag #overmyskin trended worldwide on social media thanks to the millions of fans who have been eagerly anticipating the singe’rs solo debut following her departure from Girls Generation. Pop culture outlet, Rolling Stone, called the song a “sensual, bold, English-language song” in their feature story about Tiffany.
In an interview with Rolling Stone‘s Jae Hae-Kim, Tiffany discussed her future goals moving forward as a solo artist,
“It was never a secret that I wanted to pursue a career here in America. My girls knew and our fans knew. I started out in Girls’ Generation when I was 17, and now I’m 28…..I was thinking more about how can I bring what I am as a K-Pop artist, but also bring in the elements of pop that I love and grew up with – that Pharrell, Britney, Justin Timberlake, Timbaland era. That music is still amazing to this day. I just wanted to bring both worlds together.”
“Over My Skin” tackles the themes of self awareness and embracing one’s femininity. Boasting a classy pop vibe with a dash of ’90s R&B elements, the track takes on a semi auto-biographical narrative about a young woman who is in transitioning into a new chapter of her life. Quite literally Tiffany’s (also known as Fanny by her fans) current situation as she described the song as “It is me all the way.”
In the Rolling Stones interview, Tiffany shared her excitement,
“I feel liberated, like I’m finally stepping into my own superpowers! It’s about doing my life my way and not for anyone else. When you first hear the song, you can say, oh that is about sex, but listen again, it is really deeper than that. It is about being a woman in this world at this time. My favorite line is ‘do nasty things and you don’t judge me’ because I think every woman feels that way and there is nothing wrong with it,” she proudly states.
Tiffany collaborated with entertainment company, Transparent Arts (founded by Far East Movement) and Jon Yip form the Grammy award winning production team, The Stereotypes to bring “Over My Skin” to life. Tiffany and Far East Movement have previously collaborated on the EDM trio’s track, “Don’t Speak” from their album, Identity.
