Previously, netizens have discovered plagiarized use of another fan’s cover in SHINee’s Google+ fan chat on March 8th. A fan had submitted a video of her allegedly singing SHINee’s ‘Juliette’ and ‘Sherlock’ and was selected as one of seven to participate in the one-on-one chat with SHINee. However, netizens have discovered that her cover was stolen from another Youtube singer.
As of recent, the issue has been resolved and apologies have been made to the original singer and the SHINee fandom. She has also notified Google+ of the situation and made sure the prizes are given to the rightful recipient.
However, everyone can learn from this incident. Plagiarism is hurtful and disrespectful to those who worked so hard to produce their own material, not to mention that it is a serious offense with serious legal repercussions covered by international law, strictly enforced in all countries.
This article was written not to antagonize or to be derogatory, but to serve as a good reminder to all of us fans. We all share the same dream to one day come face-to-face with the groups we have come to love and admire. We get carried away by our fangirl/fanboy emotions that we forget important ethical rules that we need to always observe.
Having said that the issue has been resolved, let us not take this any further to the point of hurting each other.
