After much anticipation, TWICE kicked off 2024 with the release of their latest single, “I GOT YOU.”
Released via JYP Entertainment/Imperial/Republic Records, the single serves as a prelude to their upcoming 13th mini album, With YOU-th, scheduled for release on February 23. “I GOT YOU” is the nonet’s third English single following the massive success of their other English hits “The Feels” and “MOONLIGHT SUNRISE.”
“I GOT YOU” is a bright pop track about the power of friendship. The lyrics reflect TWICE’s journey, both as a group and more importantly as friends who have leaned on each other during difficult times. “No matter what you got me, I got you / And I wouldn’t want it any other way” and “No drop of doubt, I know deep down that / We’ll make it through, just like we always do.” Additionally, the song also affirms that the bond they forged with their fans, called ONCE, runs deep and motivates them to push forward. “No, we’ll never fall apart / Even million miles apart / We were lightning from the start / And it keeps me going to know that.”
The accompanying cinematic music video features the TWICE members hunkered down inside their ship amidst a storm. Despite the thunder, heavy rains, and crashing waves that pummel their ship, they remain content, finding peace and happiness in each other’s presence. The video briefly transitions into animation style as the girls fall into the ocean. As they make their way back to the surface, two hands, bound together by the red string of fate, are shown clasping each other, further signifying that TWICE can weather any storm that comes their way as long as they have their fans and each other.
The single’s release follows the announcement of a special performance of TWICE’s 5th World Tour “READY TO BE” in the United States, “READY TO BE” ONCE MORE, at Las Vegas’ Allegiant Stadium on Saturday, March 16. Tickets for the one-night-only performance can be purchased on Ticketmaster.
