Three of the buzziest names in Korean music are set to make their marks this year at the iconic Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival, colloquially and more commonly known simply as Coachella. Boy group ATEEZ, girl group LE SSERAFIM, and indie rock band The Rose are confirmed to be making their first-ever appearances at the prestigious festival, taking place across two weekends from April 12 to April 21 in Indio, California. ATEEZ’s appearance is particularly historic, as they will become the first K-Pop boy band to perform at the festival, which draws approximately 125,000 attendees per day of the event.
Additionally, the lineup also includes 88RISING FUTURES. While it’s still unclear what the set will entail, fans are speculating that this could include 88rising’s new artists from the label’s roster such as (G)-IDLE, or affiliated artists like XG. In the past, 88rising has brought Korean music artists such as aespa, BIBI, Yoon Mirae, Jackson Wang, and LØREN to Coachella’s stages. In 2022, the label’s “Head in The Clouds Forever” stage reunited 2NE1, who performed together live for the first time in seven years with a surprise appearance, so fans may be in for a treat.
The three groups and 88RISING FUTURES are among a star-studded schedule of over 150 artists including headliners Lana Del Rey, Doja Cat, Tyler, The Creator, and No Doubt, in what is one of Coachella’s most diverse and globally-representative lineups to date.
ATEEZ’s April 12 and 19 appearances at Coachella come as the group, composed of members Hongjoong, Seonghwa, Yunho, Yeosang, San, Mingi, Wooyoung, and Jongho, rides a wave of international success. They were recently named Record Store Day’s “K-Pop Artist of the Year,” and in December, their second studio album THE WORLD EP.FIN : WILL debuted at the top of the Billboard 200 and sold 1.7 million copies in its first week. The group started 2024 by kicking off their fifth world tour, [TOWARDS THE LIGHT : WILL TO POWER], in Korea and Japan, with more dates to be announced. If the theatrical production and explosive performances from ATEEZ’s most recent The Fellowship: Break the Wall Tour are anything to go by, festivalgoers can expect a fun, high-energy, and well-choreographed set.
Joining ATEEZ is LE SSERAFIM, the five-piece girl group made up of Sakura, Chaewon, Yunjin, Kazuha, and Eunchae. The group, who will grace Coachella’s stage on April 13 and 20, has gained a number of achievements since their debut in 2022. Their first EP, Fearless, broke the record for the highest-selling debut album from a K-Pop girl group, and their second EP, Antifragile, was the fastest debut on the Billboard 200 from a K-Pop girl group. LE SSERAFIM was also nominated for two awards at the 2023 MAMA Awards, and the remixes for their hit track “Eve, Psyche, & The Bluebeard’s Wife” saw the group collaborate with internationally-renowned artists such as BIBI, CAMO, Mirani, UPSAHL, Rina Sawayama, Jurin of XG, and Demi Lovato. Coachella attendees can look forward to seeing LE SSERAFIM slay onstage with their fun choreography and girl power anthems, such as the ones making up their latest release, Easy.
Rounding out Coachella’s lineup of Korean talent is The Rose, who will make their first-ever appearance at the festival on April 14 and 21. The beloved band is no stranger to the global music festival circuit, making appearances at festivals such as Mad Cool Festival in Spain, Life is Beautiful Music Festival in Las Vegas, Main Square Festival in France, and more in 2023. After playing Lollapalooza’s Latin American editions, The Rose made their debut appearance at Lollapalooza’s flagship Chicago event in August 2023 and headlined one of the festival’s official Aftershows. On top of their lengthy resume of festivals and tours, DUAL, the group’s latest album, saw impressive ranks on the Billboard charts. Coachella is a dream event for many musicians, and as The Rose heads into their seventh year as a group, their spot on this year’s lineup is well-deserved and hard-earned. Both Black Roses (the band’s fanbase) and casual festivalgoers can anticipate hearing The Rose’s unmistakable brand of melodic pop-rock.
Passes, camping bundles, and other add-on packages can be purchased at Coachella’s website here. While Weekend 1 passes at both the General Admission and VIP tiers are currently sold out, Weekend 2 is still available. Coachella will also be livestreaming performances from both weekends on their official YouTube channel so that fans who are unable to attend the festival can host their very own Couch-ellas.
