Krazy Super Concert, the two-day music festival that first kicked off in New York in August 2023, successfully completed its West Coast debut on the weekend of September 14 and 15 at the Long Beach Arena in Southern California. Originally slated for February 2024 at BMO Stadium, the festival was unfortunately postponed due to safety concerns and rescheduled for this past September weekend with a revised lineup and new venue.
The full music artist lineup consisted of both global and K-Pop acts: Alaina Castillo, AKMU, Lay Zhang, Lauv, SUNMI, ZEROBASEONE, and aespa performed on Day 1 while AGNEZ MO, ZEROBASEONE, aespa, BamBam, DK of iKON, and CL performed on Day 2. Both days were hosted by the multi-talented singer, entertainer, and fitness enthusiast Kim Jongkook. Along with the stacked artist lineup, the 18,000+ fans in attendance over the weekend enjoyed on-site activities like fan activations, food trucks, and dance cover performances.
Winners of the Krazy Dance Contest, consisting of online and in-person competitions to spotlight the best in K-Pop dance, performed at the outdoor fan stage and on the Krazy Super Concert grand stage to warm up the crowd for the artists. Spade A Dance covered “GOOD SO BAD” by ZEROBASEONE, followed by ASTRA with the iconic dance break of aespa’s “Supernova,” and PLAYGROUND ended the showcase with aespa’s “Black Mamba.”
As the special guest of Day 2, Indonesian singer and dancer, AGNEZ MO, entered the stage to officially start the night. She began with her song “Coke Bottle” featuring American artists T.I. and Timbaland and even taught the audience the catchy hook part to “Nanana” to get everyone singing along with her. Paying homage to her Southeast Asian roots, she finished with “Party in Bali,” which also has a special remix with Jay Park released earlier that week.
Keeping up the energy, soloist DK from the boy group iKON took center stage with a microphone stand for the moody track “LTNS” from his self-produced debut album, Nakseo. Joined by his backup dancers, he performed the sexy “Kiss Me,” his solo track from iKON’s recent album TAKE OFF. He followed up with his laidback title track of “Groovin’” before exiting the stage.
Kim Jongkook came out to introduce himself as the MC of the night to the delight of the crowd, especially his front-row male fans. He invited DK back onto the stage to ask him a few questions. When asked if he prefers being solo or in a group, DK shared how he feels lonelier performing solo because he misses his members. However, he’s excited to explore new opportunities in his solo career, acknowledging that both have their advantages. For DK’s game segment, he played charades and acted out words for Kim Jongkook to guess. To everyone’s surprise, they had amazing teamwork and quickly got all the answers.
Day 2 of Krazy Super Concert coincidentally fell on iKON’s debut anniversary so DK dedicated the second half of his set to his members and iKONICs, the official name of their fans. DK launched into the energetic hip-hop tracks “Tantara,” “RHYTHM TA,” and “BLING BLING.” He happily danced across the whole stage and showed off his vocals and hidden rap skills as he covered his members’ parts. DK then introduced the next song “B-DAY” by screaming “For iKONIC’s Birthday!” As a final testament to how amazing iKON’s discography is, DK finished up with the mega-hit “LOVE SCENARIO” that had everyone singing along to the catchy chorus.
Without skipping a beat, ZEROBASEONE took the stage next in athletic, high-teen outfits featuring various Los Angeles sports team jerseys. They performed their latest single “GOOD SO BAD,” from their 4th extended play CINEMA PARADISE, and the fan-favorite “New Kidz on the Block” from their debut album, YOUTH IN THE SHADE. The boys were rejoined by MC Kim Jongkook to play a fun game of “Guess the K-Pop Song” where the members had to guess the songs based on Hanbin’s dance moves. Fans were delighted to see the group dance to popular songs like “Dynamite” by BTS, “Queencard” by (G)I-DLE, and “Clap” by Seventeen. The members even danced to “Lovable” by Kim Jongkook in front of the singer himself, who happily joined in.
Resuming their stage, ZEROBASEONE performed “Kill the Romeo,” showcasing their charismatic signature, finger gun pose. They followed it up with “Sunday Ride,” offering plenty of fanservice as they roamed the stage. After a fun, bubbly performance of “Feel the Pop,” the members asked if any ZEROSES, the official fandom name, would be attending their upcoming first world tour TIMELESS WORLD. As only Asia stops have been announced for the tour so far, Zhang Hao reassured fans that he will tell their company to hold a concert in Los Angeles as well. Sadly, it was time for their last stage but Gunwook lifted the mood by cutely exclaiming to ZEROSES, “I am so happy cause of you!” The group completed their night with an upbeat performance of their debut song “IN BLOOM.”
Up next was soloist BamBam, a member of the long-lasting boy group GOT7, who came dressed to impress in a cowboy-themed outfit with red rhinestone-studded pants, a leather vest, and gloves decked out with tassels. BamBam and his female dancers turned up the heat with the bouncy, sassy “Thank You Come Again” known for its twerking dance moves. He performed his most recent single “LAST PARADE” where the fireworks went off in time with the chorus beat drop for a truly explosive performance.
Kim Jongkook returned to chat with BamBam, where they shared a bromance moment, complimenting each other’s muscles. BamBam explained he wanted to incorporate waacking moves in his choreography because it’s not a style often seen among male idols. They then played the “balance game” where BamBam had to choose between two options. A highlight was his difficult decision between being nicknamed “Corrupted Sexy Demon King” or “Angel Baby Face Puppy.“ He eventually chose the former, sharing that since he debuted at the young age of 17, it was time for him to show his mature side and become a “sexy demon king.”
Further showcasing songs from his latest album, BAMESIS, BamBam performed “Ball Like That” and “Mi Último Deseo.” He explained that he has been really into Latin and Spanish music so he really wanted to make a song in Spanish. Now at the end of his set, BamBam expressed he would love to come back to California to perform again and maybe next time, he won’t be alone—eliciting the delight of Ahgases, GOT7’s official fanclub name. While asking for local recommendations, he hilariously shut down fans’ playful offers by retorting, “I know you’re gonna be like ‘My house! My house!’ But are you gonna cook for me? Are you gonna let me stay for free? Are you going to drive me to the airport?” Despite everyone’s enthusiastic agreement to his terms, he declined Ahgase’s invitations to their homes and moved on to his final stages.
BamBam wrapped up his set with “Sour and Sweet” and “riBBon,” during which he led a fanchant of the GOT7 members’ names at the outro. Not quite ready to depart from Ahgases, BamBam had one last song up his sleeve — a surprise performance of GOT7’s “Hard Carry.” The crowd exploded in excitement as BamBam ran all around the stage, slaying the final dance break that left fans wanting more.
Krazy Super Concert attendees were then serenaded by Kim Jongkook who slowed things down with his iconic ballad, “One Man.” Although he initially planned to perform just one song and didn’t have his backup dancers, he decided to treat his fans with one more performance. The whole crowd came alive, singing and dancing along to his 2005 hit song “Loveable,” which recently regained attention due to the viral TikTok dance challenge.
It was then aespa’s turn to take the stage, and they started strong with their powerful performance of their debut track “Black Mamba” followed by their recent hit, “Supernova.” Having already performed on Day 1, aespa were asked if anything was different for Day 2. Karina straightforwardly responded “Our hairstyles!” and played with her cute, cat-ear-shaped hair pieces. MC Kim Jongkook then chatted with aespa about their travel essentials and played the “balance game” where the girls were presented with questions about each other, like choosing between Ningning’s voice or her cuteness. They continued their set with their all-English song “Hold On Tight” from the movie Tetris, followed by “Armageddon,” before closing out with their fan-favorite hit, “Next Level,” which samples from the Fast & Furious: Hobbs & Shaw soundtrack.
After a series of amazing performances, it was finally time for the closing act to take the Krazy Super Concert grand stage. The crowd brimmed with excitement and sang along loudly as the DJ on stage played “I Am the Best” by 2NE1. Known for her fierce stage presence and solid crowd interactions, CL turned up the heat by shouting “Who is ready to get spicy tonight?” Joined by her 1MILLION Dance Studio backup dancers, CL opened her set with the cheeky song “SPICY.” She hyped up the whole arena to get up on their feet for “HWA” and “Chuck” where she showed off her sexy moves. After “Doctor Pepper,” she dedicated “THE BADDEST FEMALE,” to “all my bad girls out there,” delivering an empowering, girl-crush moment. CL then jammed out to “5 STAR” and “Lover Like Me” as she moved throughout the stage to interact with as many fans as possible while effortlessly showing off her live vocals.
For all the Blackjacks, 2NE1’s official fandom name, she performed “멘붕(MTBD)” from 2NE1’s final studio album, CRUSH, flawlessly rapping and soulfully singing the outro. Sadly, it was time for the last song but the crowd quickly got hyped again as the iconic intro to “Hello Bitches” began. CL made sure to give her backup dancers their moment to shine in the spotlight, showing off their best moves. By the final chorus, the entire arena turned up as confetti rained down over the entire floor section. After thanking her fans, CL exited the stage, officially marking the end of Krazy Super Concert Day 2.
Despite the early hurdles the organizers had to overcome, Krazy Super Concert successfully concluded their first West Coast shows with a jam-packed Day 2 that featured over three and a half hours of exciting performances and artist interactions. We can’t wait for the Krazy Super Concert team to take all the learnings that the inaugural year of concerts has provided and come back with a bigger, better festival next time!
