[RECAP] Heize Triumphs Over Technical Difficulties

On a warm summer night at The Belasco in Los Angeles, the opening DJ played the beginning chords from the movie La La Land’s critically-acclaimed song, “City of Stars.” One would imagine that this song would not be fit for the K-R&B concert that night, but at this time, it made sense for soloist Heize in the first stop of her first stateside tour. After the DJ’s set concluded, the 27-year-old artist graced the stage with her calming presence while singing one of her more popular singles, “Jenga.” Gracefully and sincerely, she leaned down in her pink, ruffled dress to interact with her fans. While holding their hands and throwing them finger hearts, Heize flowed into her next song, “Shut Up & Groove,” followed by the famous Groovyroom track she featured on with Jay Park, “Sunday.”

Heize, a Daegu-native, communicated with fans through her translator throughout the show. She expressed her sentiments on how much energy the crowd gave her. Unfortunately, technical difficulties plagued the first part of the show as her in-ear monitors played a different song than what she was singing, and she ended up removing them. Through her broken English, she kept apologizing to her fans, and then offered a signed copy of her latest album, “She’s Fine,” to the most enthusiastic fan in the audience.

Many lucky fans in the front row of the concert had selfies taken with their phones by Heize. This along with time taken to speak with fans continued throughout the entire show. Heize’s interaction with her fans truly showcased how much she cared for those who support her. Heize even received gifts, which mostly were plushies of the Disney Movie, Frozen’s, Olaf, which is her favorite Disney character.

Underwater,” “She’s Fine,” “Don’t Know You,” and “In Time Spent With You,” preceded her first true ment where she, much like the loveable Olaf, continued to show how much love she has for her fans. After taking a picture with yet another fan’s phone, Heize asked everyone to take out their devices and turn on the flashlight for “Star.” She performed “First Sight,” “No Reason,” “Dark Clouds,” “Don’t Come Back,” and before moving on to the last song, she promoted her upcoming single, produced by BTS’ Suga, “We Don’t Talk Together.” The single is set to drop on July 7th. Although she stated “You, Clouds, Rain,” was the last song, the crowd delighted in her encore as she chose the fan winner of the signed album, and the fan was lucky enough to come on to the stage with her and have the album personalized. Finally, she concluded with “And July” featuring her former labelmate, DEAN.

Despite her setlist containing more relaxing songs, her interaction with the crowd captivated the attendees the entire time, and in that short time, all that mattered was her and her fans. Heize’s return to Los Angeles will only be a matter of time.
