Already creating buzz through TikTok and other social platforms, upcoming rookie group, LUMINOUS, will finally make their official debut in September with “RUN” from their debut mini-album, YOUTH.
Comprised of members Young Bin (Leader, Lead Vocalist/Dancer), Suil (Rapper/Sub- Vocalist/Dancer), Steven (Sub-Vocalist/Rapper), and Woo Bin (Main Vocalist), the quartet will be the first K-Pop group under BarunsonWIP Company.
Fans of the ‘PRODUCE‘ talent competition shows may recognize a few familiar faces. Young Bin and Australian member, Steven, have both participated as contestants on MNET’s 2019 ‘PRODUCE X.’ Furthermore, BarunsonWIP Company’s CEO Sung Eun Kim, is known as “K-Pop’s Top Vocal Coach” for training BTS, TWICE, NU’EST, Kang Daniel, ATEEZ, AB6IX, and served as a guest judge on MNET’s ‘I-Land’ and ‘PRODUCE 101.’
The debut mini-album will highlight the beauty and challenges of youth. With the COVID-19 pandemic, social media has become ingrained in our lives as a medium to stay connected while being apart. While it is able to bring people together, it can also yield feelings of isolation and leave others yearning for more. YOUTH will serve as the first chapter of the LUMINOUS SERIES and illuminates the dichotomy of the highs and lows of everyday life while emitting feelings of empathy and comfort to their fans.
The title track “RUN” is described as a hip-hop and R&B track that sings of the struggles the youth face due to societal pressure. The music video will revolve around discovering and embracing one’s identity without any limitations. The album and music video will boast an eclectic mix of fashion styles such as glamor punk, chic, hip-hop, and street techwear, emphasizing the importance of finding one’s own identity.
LUMINOUS’ concept is based on the meaning of the word itself. Light cannot exist without darkness, and the four-piece group hopes to illuminate people’s lives with their positive influence and music. The LUMINOUS SERIES will explore those confusing, emotional times that the rookies feel as members of today’s youthful generation.
Ahead of their debut, LUMINOUS actively nurtured and created content for their fans. The group participated in several viral TikTok challenges, uploaded vlogs to their Youtube channel, and even covered other groups’ songs such as BTS’ “Butter.” Given their focus on the hip-hop and R&B genres within their music, LUMINOUS tries to implement similar vibes into their dance. This laidback, groovy swagger can be seen in their pre-debut cover of Baby Keem & Travis Scott’s “Durag Activity,” which was filmed by the world-renowned videographer, Anthony King, who is been known for filming all of BLACKPINK LISA’s “LILI’s FILM” dance performances.
LUMINOUS also released a five-track, pre-debut EP called VISION, which included four solo songs sung by each member. Check out the music video for “Dreaming LUMINOUS” and connect with LUMINOUS on their social media accounts, below!
