The amazing JAPAN MATSURI event returned to London this year promising to be even better than the previous year. For the second time, the event was hosted in Trafalgar Square.
“This dynamic annual event brings people together to enjoy Japanese food, music, dance, activities for all the family and much, much more.”
The great thing about the event is that not only is it perfect for a family day out, it is also great to learn about Japanese food, culture and traditions. It surprising to see the sheer number of people that were taking part in the event. A large proportion of people were clearly tourists caught in the moment as they were passing through one of London’s must see sights. However despite being caught up in the event you could still see they were enjoying the food and entertainment at the all-day event.
On the two stages throughout the day look out for spectacular Taiko Drumming, Japanese Dance, a live Nodo Jiman Karaoke Contest with great prizes, Tsugaru Shamisen and a variety of thrilling Martial Arts demonstrations.
Enjoy the atmosphere of a Japanese festival with Food from the numerous stalls. All the Family can join in the fun in the Activities area with games and dressing in kimono. Or try your hand at drawing Japanese cartoons on the manga wall.
Japan Matsuri is organized by Japan Matsuri Ltd., comprising the Japan Association in the UK, the Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry in the UK, the Japan Society and the Nippon Club and supported by the Embassy of Japan.
Some of the great food showcased at the event from Yaki, Taro Restaurants, SOYA and Juzu. There were a large variety of food stalls were everything from sushi to takoyaki on sale.
Lord Sebastian Coe was on hand to offer his support for Japan hosting the Olympics in 2020 after Rio.
If you missed the event, don’t worry because they will be back again next year. Certainly worth the visit if you are around despite some long queues for food.
