Supported by Spotify, “Is It On” will bring two cultures together with artists united by their love for K-Pop
Breakout soloist AleXa, known for her trademark powerful performances and unique concepts, has joined forces with Arabic Pop prince Bader AlShuaibi for “Is It On,” a new collaborative single helmed by Spotify.
Grasping the growing popularity of K-Pop in the MENA region, “Is It On” will bring two cultures together with artists united by their love for K-Pop. The project, written by Bader and set to be released on May 21, is the first time in Spotify’s history in which a RADAR Korea artist and RADAR MENA artist collaborated together, and the first time a RADAR Korea artist is participating in a cross-border collaboration project on Spotify. This project is in partnership with Warner Music Korea and the track “Is It On” produced by ORAE.
“I’m so grateful for this collaboration. It’s a fresh, never-heard-before mix of cultures and sound. I really can’t wait for our fans all over the world to hear this track,”
– Alexa
“It’s 2021, we barely see any borders between cultures and people. This project is the child of globalization and my personal love for Korean Pop culture. AleXa is an extremely talented artist and together I believe we created the coolest cross-cultural collaboration, ever,”
– Bader
With K-Pop being a dominant genre in markets like the UAE and Saudi Arabia, Spotify’s RADAR collaboration aims to amplify music with the potential to crossover. The collaboration – based on Spotify’s RADAR program – will ultimately give both artists global exposure and expand their audiences across borders to over 178 markets, and includes support on the Spotify platform, social media, and more.
RADAR Korea – showcasing rising artists from Korea – officially launched in August 2020, with AleXa being the first representative rookie. She was also the second most streamed RADAR Korea artist globally in 2020. And RADAR MENA artist Bader AlShuaibi is one of the most well-respected rising artists in Kuwait and the Middle East, also known as the future of Arabic Pop.
AleXa exploded onto the scene with her multilingual debut, “Bomb,” in October of 2019, breaking into the Top 10 of Billboard’s “World Digital Song Sales Chart” within its first week of release. In 2020, AleXa inked a deal with ICM Partners, home to an all-star roster of award-winning artists including Nicki Minaj and Khalid, to set a global debut in motion. AleXa is also set to appear in her first acting role on the second season of Netflix’s chart-topping horror anthology series “Goedam,” and will be making a comeback in June this year.
AleXa is the first artist debuting under Zanybros, one of Korea’s largest production houses at the core of South Korean music video history. Their track record spans over a decade, with the production of more than 1,300 music videos for artists like BTS, EXO, Mamamoo, Super Junior, Seo Taiji, and more.
“Is It On” will be released on May 21, stay tuned!
