[INTERVIEW] Wango Tango Reflections with NMIXX

On May 10, NMIXX left their mark at Huntington Beach, kicking off the main stage performances at iHeartRadio 102.7 KIIS FM Wango Tango Presented by Fiji Airways. The group — consisting of members Lily, Haewon, Sullyoon, Bae, Jiwoo, and Kyujin — shared the stage with global stars Gwen Stefani, Doja Cat, Meghan Trainor, DJ David Guetta, KATSEYE, xikers, A2O MAY, and Hearts2Hearts.

NMIXX’s debut Wango Tango stage kicked off strong with “See That?,” “DASH,” and “Run for Roses,” all backed by a live band that amplified each song. Although NMIXX’s extensive discography could not be showcased in the limited timeframe, they made the strategic choice to leave a lasting impression with a medley of their most addictive hits: “Soñar (Breaker),” “DICE,” and the fan-favorite earworm that had everyone singing along, “Love Me Like This.”

The Wango Tango audience demographic was a mix of avid K-Pop fans who proudly sported their fansigns and lightsticks, and curious first-time listeners getting their first taste of the genre. As the first K-Pop group to take perform on the Wango Tango lineup, NMIXX were determined to leave it all on stage – and they did. From their sharp choreography to their flawless live vocals, the girls commanded the crowd’s full attention and showcased a versatile setlist.

It was so nice to be able to perform like this again in front of the sea,” Jiwoo shared with Kpopconcerts.com on the Wango Tango red carpet. “It was so nice, I really wanted to dive into the sea, and the audience cheers were so crazy!”

With a packed schedule and limited time on the red carpet, the group later offered a fuller reflection on their Wango Tango experience.

KPC: Congratulations on your Wango Tango performance! How was your overall Wango Tango experience?

NMIXX: Wango Tango is such a famous festival so we were quite nervous but very excited before we took the stage. We all did our very best and the stage ended up going really well. The crowd was also so great! The energy was really good and we could tell everyone was in a good mood and ready to party. Especially because we were right on the beach!

KPC: K-Pop has been making waves around the world, and has especially grown in popularity in the United States over the years. How does it feel being one of the first K-Pop artists to perform in Wango Tango, and being part of that global movement?

NMIXX: K-Pop is such a great genre with a lot of artistry and hidden gems It deserves all the love it gets. It was such an honour to perform at Wango Tango as a K-Pop group! We hope that we got to show off the charms of K-Pop to the people in the crowd who maybe weren’t as familiar with it.

KPC: Were there any performances you were especially excited to see?

NMIXX: We are huge fans of all the artists in the lineup! We’re especially excited to see Doja Cat’s performance because she really is an inspiration to us with her stellar stage presence and songwriting.

KPC: How was it meeting the other performers, such as Doja Cat and Meghan Trainor?

NMIXX: It was such an exciting moment for us and they were so kind and sweet. It was so surreal because we had seen them on screens so much, and to have them right in front of us in the flesh was so crazy. We felt like we were dreaming.

KPC: Looking back at your journey so far, what’s been one of the most memorable moments for NMIXX as a group?

NMIXX: Wango Tango was a really big moment for us as a group! We got to perform on Huntington Beach with a full band in front of great people in a lineup of incredible artists. It was an unforgettable day for us.

KPC: With your continued success, it seems like the sky’s the limit. What are your goals for the future?

NMIXX: We hope we can continue to create more NSWERs (our fans) in all different types of places and strengthen our bond with our fans now. Also, we want lots of people to find happiness and solace in our songs.

KPC: Now that Wango Tango is over, what’s next for NMIXX?

NMIXX: We have a few stops left on our fan concert tour which is a lot of fun, and hopefully we’ll be coming out with a new project that the fans can look forward to soon!
