[INTERVIEW] Moon Jongup on Meeting New York Fans and Solo Endeavors

Moon Jongup gained recognition in the K-Pop industry as the main dancer of the boy group B.A.P. The group debuted in 2012, becoming one of the hottest rookie acts to look out for. In such a short period of time, their music and charisma piqued the interest of many fans worldwide. B.A.P snagged multiple rookie awards that year, living up to their name of being the “Best. Absolute. Perfect.”

Although the group parted ways with their company in 2019, Jongup decided to pursue a solo career, with many B.A.P fans sticking by his side and new fans accompanying him on this new chapter. He released his first EP US in 2021, showcasing his songwriting skills as an artist. He also recently competed in the Korean reality TV show Peak Time in which he was part of the project group Team 24:00, ultimately ranking 3rd place.

[RECAP] Moon Jongup Holds Meet & Greet Event at K-Fun Day in New York

Following his participation in Peak Time, Jongup reunited with his fans at Skyview’s K-Fun Day in New York. It has been four years since Jongup last visited New York as a soloist so the turnout ended up being a huge success with tickets selling out in a matter of minutes. Prior to the event, Kpopconcerts.com had the opportunity to chat with him as he shared with us his thoughts on New York and his goals as a soloist.

KPC: Welcome back to New York! How does it feel to be back and what are your favorite things to do here?

Jongup:  At first, I was worried that I wouldn’t have the opportunity to visit here again but now I’m just really happy to be back. I love every minute I spend here. I recently went to BCD Tofu House which I thought was a great experience.

KPC: What memorable experiences did you have as a contestant on Peak Time? What were some things that you’ve learned from being a part of that show?
Jongup:
The most memorable experience was when we [Alliance C] performed Christopher’s “Bad” and won first place. I had a lot of worries while preparing for that performance and I felt a huge weight on my shoulders, so the fact that I won first place MVP was especially memorable. Through those experiences, I’ve learned how to challenge myself and grow as an artist. It was also an honor to have Jay Park produce a song for me.

KPC: You recently did a cover of SEVENTEEN’s “Anyone” and a dance challenge with member Jun. Are there any K-Pop idols you would like to collaborate with?
Jongup:
I don’t have anyone specific in mind at the moment but I think doing collaborations with different idols is fun and entertaining so I’m open to working with anyone.

KPC: Will we be seeing a new solo album from you sometime soon along with Team 24:00 activities?
Jongup:
I’m preparing a new solo album which is my priority right now. As for Team 24:00, I’m on good terms with my team members but it’s uncertain regarding group activities together. I’m still talking to them about my solo activities so I hope you guys will look forward to my solo album that will be coming out soon.

KPC: If you could spend 24 hours with anyone, who would it be and why?
Jongup:
I would like to spend it with my fans! *smiles brightly*

KPC: It’s been a while since you’ve last seen your New York fans. What is something you’re looking forward to at the meet & greet?

Jongup: I’m excited to see the fans waiting for me in New York. I’m also looking forward to spreading awareness of Korean culture. We have a lot of things prepared for the fans today and there will be performances as well so I hope you guys will anticipate that!
