After debuting earlier this year, “Build Up: Vocal Boy Group Survival” winners B.D.U (Boys Define Universe) kicked off their first world tour, B.D.U – First World Tour for Wishpool: Flash & Light, on August 16. With their tour winding down, the group paid a visit to the Colorado mountain town of Boulder on Sunday, September 29, where their fans, known as B.Us, flocked to the Fox Theater to support the group and their first EP, Wishpool.
On a mild fall evening, Colorado B.Us lined up outside the intimate theater, buzzing with excitement for the lively and spirited show. Once the doors opened, fans adorned in tour merch and K-Pop paraphernalia flooded inside while waving lightsticks. B.Us excitedly cheered as the house lights dimmed. An introductory VCR played on the screen above the stage. One by one, each member of B.D.U lit up the screen as the instrumental track to their song, “My One” filled the concert hall. The VCR showed Jay Chang, Seunghun, Bitsaeon, and Kim Minseo dancing and wandering through an open field, creating a whimsical, wholesome energy in the venue. As the screen faded to black, B.Us cheered and chanted for B.D.U to come to the stage.
Responding to the shouts of their fans, B.D.U emerged from the shadows and took center stage to greet their Boulder B.Us. The members welcomed their fans with smiles and excited waves as they moved into their starting choreography positions. The crowd hushed as they waited for the first chords of the opening song to ring out. As vibrant pink and red lights illuminated the four members, cheers erupted in unison with the first notes of B.D.U’s song, “Flower.” The members effortlessly executed their synchronized choreography and flowed across the stage. Fans sang along and waved their lightsticks, creating a mesmerizing sea of colors that perfectly complemented the group’s vibrant stage presence.
Stagehands set up mic stands for the next set, and B.D.U stepped into their places. As the lights faded to blue, an air of anticipation enveloped the audience as the members began to sign a cover of Woodz’s “Drowning.”Their harmonies wove together beautifully as the boys delivered a flawless rendition of the powerful track that showcased their vocal talent and emotional connection to music. Each member belted strong and emotional vocals, infusing the performance with a raw intensity.
The powerful energy in the room surged as B.D.U transitioned into duet sages where Seunghun and Kim Minseo covered “River” by Bishop Briggs, and Jay Chang and Bisteon performed a cover of “Dangerously” by Charlie Puth. Both duos exuded charisma, exchanging bantering and emotional body movements that highlighted their vocal delivery and rapport. As they sang, the crowd erupted with enthusiasm, joining in with cheers and singing. Each performance seamlessly transitioned into the next, with the group’s synergy on full display.
Once the four members reunited on stage, they announced they wanted to play a game with Boulder B.U. The crowd excitedly agreed to play the “Guess the Name Game” with B.D.U. Each member sat in a chair as staff members placed headbands that held index cards on their heads. Kim Minseo’s card read “Avacado,” Bisteon’s “River,” Jay Chang’s “Rude,” and Seunghun “Corner Kick.” The members took turns asking B.U yes-or-no questions to find out what their card said. Thanks to B.U’s answers and hints, Bistaeon was the first to figure out his card, followed by Seunghun, then Jay Chang, and last, but not least, Kim Minseo. Fans cheered as the members got closer to the right answers and sighed when they drifted further away.
After the wholesome and interactive game, the members transitioned to solo stages. Bistaeon led with an emotional cover of Adele’s “Someone Like You,” displaying resonant vocals, followed by Kim Minseo’s emphatic performance of “Mercy” by Shawn Mendes. Jay Chang sang his single “Liar,” which he released in 2022, energetically prancing around the stage with fans singing along to the catchy chorus. Seunghun entered the stage next and performed a cover of Jung Kook’s single, “3D.” He enthusiastically performed the choreography to the hit song and nailed all the rap lyrics as B.U chanted along. As each member showcased their unique artistry, the crowd’s excitement grew, creating a harmonious atmosphere that highlighted B.D.U’s authentic connection with their fans.
The members paused again to connect with Boulder B.U., asking to take a photo with them, which was met with an excited roar from the crowd. The boys posed with a Colorado flag in front of the Boulder audience. After the photo, Jay Chang announced they had one more song left, prompting sad boos from the fans. The members took turns expressing their gratitude, thanking fans for coming to their show and always supporting them. B.D.U promised to return to their Colorado fans again, and they hoped that B.U would enjoy this last song together.
B.D.U performed their song “My One” accompanied by a whimsical, animated video of a boy chasing airplanes flying above him that played behind the members, illuminating them in soft pastel colors. The infectious track had fans jumping up and down as the members danced in sync. As the song came to an end, the members continuously thanked Boulder B.U as they walked off the stage, waving goodbye. Then, a final VCR lit up the screen above the stage. B.D.U members answered questions such as “How do you feel about the opportunity to meet your overseas fans?” To which Jay Chang answered,
“Finally, as B.D.U we’re able to meet global B.U all around the world, and it’s because of B.U that we’re able to have this opportunity in the first place. Not only are we very thankful for this opportunity, but we’re very excited to be able to bring our music, our stages, to you, your stages. So thank you for giving us an opportunity. We’re going to make sure that we make the most of it. Be ready! Because we’re going to… home run.”
Each member thanked Global B.U continuously for their love and support. As the VCR faded to black, the crowd cheered and chanted “B.D.U!” over and over.
Suddenly, the stage lights came on again, and the boys ran back onto the stage wearing cute and colorful hair clips in their hair. B.D.U gifted their Boulder fans with an encore of their song, “aH-OOh!” as they jumped around the stage, sending finger hearts and smiles to the crowd. The entire venue exuded a heartfelt aura. Together, the members announced. “This has been B.D.U!” and slowly exited the stage, waving a final goodbye to B.U.
As the night concluded, B.D.U left a lasting impression on their Boulder fans, delivering a powerful performance filled with unforgettable moments and heartfelt connections. The energy in the Fox Theater lingered long after the last note faded. Though the tour has ended, B.U eagerly anticipates the group’s return to Boulder.
