TRI.BE Faces Off Against Themselves in “RUB-A-DUM” Comeback

After an explosive debut in February 2021, TRI.BE made their first comeback with “RUB-A-DUM” from their second single album, “CONMIGO”! The words “RUB-A-DUM” of the title track refers to the sound of a drum, the most prominent instrument in TRI.BE’s music. Much like their successful debut song “DOOM DOOM TA,” moombahton song “RUB-A-DUM” is just as unique. Similarly incorporating afrobeat, trap, and dancehall genres, it also has an addictive repetitive melody backed by strong percussions. Of note this time, we hear a flute highlighted throughout the track, purposefully taking a lighter-hearted spin on the “Pied Piper” legend where the TRI.BE members play along as they follow the sound of the flute.

Though the music is similar in some ways to that of “DOOM DOOM TA,” the vibrant colors in the music video for “RUB-A-DUM” features a more summery, playful feel. However, things take a slight turn when a mysterious UFO appears and the girls must go head-to-head against their doppelgangers. Intended as a continuation of their debut song’s storyline, it will be interesting to see how RUB-A-DUM follows the darker girl crush concept TRI.BE originally started with.

Hailed for their strong stage presence from their debut performances, “RUB-A-DUM” appears to be another contender with which the girls can showcase their talent.

TRI.BE is a seven-member girl group (Songsun, Kelly, Jinha, Hyunbin, Jia, Soeun, and Mire) formed by the famous producer Shinsadong Tiger, who previously debuted EXID under his own label. They are the first group to debut under Universal Music Group Korea, and established a strong debut with the rhythmically powerful, future house title track “DOOM DOOM TA.” With a strong emphasis on percussion and uncommon integration of afrobeat, funk, and dance genres, the addictive beat of “DOOM DOOM TA” allowed the girls to showcase an intense, compelling, and unique debut. It set them apart from the many other main-stream rookie groups in the industry, drawing attention worldwide.
